Explore oil painting at various local landscapes. We will analyze the subject to see it more clearly in terms of key shapes, values, composition, then experiment with color mixing, and wet on wet application of paint.  There will be brief discussion and demonstration, but most of each session will be devoted to painting with individual instruction within the group in a relaxed, positive atmosphere.

Catherine Skowron has been an artist and educator on the outer Cape since 1969 when after her first view to the dunes and Provincetown beyond she knew this was the place for her. “Skowron’s oil painting…provides viewers with originally interpreted Cape Cod themes that transcend the genre. Her landscapes reflect the naturalist in her soul—she knows these dunes and paths intimately and revels in bringing people into her own special places.” Provincetown Banner 1/30/2014. She has studied art in France and Italy and on Cape Cod with Carol Whorf Westcott, Sal DelDeo and Elizabeth Pratt. Her credentials include an MA in Education from Goddard College. Her writings on critical and creative thinking and alternative assessment have been included in numerous books and manuscripts for educators. Catherine has exhibited in a variety of venues in both open and juried shows, and her works are in private collections throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. In 2015 Skowron received an award from the Edward Hopper House Art Center in Nyack, NY for works included in “After Hopper” events sponsored by Addison Gallery, Orleans, MA. She is one of the artists featured in the Johnny Bergmann film for ArtsLight, “In the Light of Hopper.” Catherine is represented by Cortile Gallery, Provincetown.
