Lithography is unique among printmaking techniques due to its ability to faithfully reproduce delicate drawn and painterly marks. Students will explore the technique of lithography using ball-grained aluminum lithography plates and polyester litho plates. We will cover preparation of plates, transferring designs, drawing with litho crayons and other drawing materials, and creating multi-color prints.

Mike Smoot is currently a Professor of the Practice in Print and Paper at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. He completed Tamarind Institute’s Professional Printer Training Program in 2007 (focused on the production of fine art lithographs) and has worked at several professional fine art print studios including The Experimental Print Institute and Landfall Press. In addition, he has worked with several art related community organizations. He currently serves on the board of SGCI as co Vice President. https://doubledownpress.com
