Do you have the modernist impulse to combine disparate elements of castoff materials? Do you subscribe to the recycling aesthetic and have a growing collection of wood or plastic? Would you like to know how decisions are made in the assemblage process? Do you have anxiety about using small power tools? This class is for you! We will use your collection of found wood or other materials, as well as some wood pieces I will supply, and experiment with assembling these materials into ironic, witty and surprising objects d’art. We will discuss the history of assemblage, considered one of the two most important innovations in modern art, the other being abstraction.
