In this hands-on workshop, students will learn to create vibrant, botanical paintings on natural fibers using only plants and natural materials. Through the use of plant and insect-based dyes, fresh leaves, flowers, plant extracts, and food waste, we'll discover how to achieve stunning botanical colorations on fiber. With a few simple mordant recipes and techniques, we’ll explore how to harness the color and form of nature in fabric. This course is perfect for artists and eco-conscious creatives looking to deepen their connection with nature while experimenting with sustainable, plant-based art forms.
Alison Kelly is the founder of Flora Obscura, a creative studio that blends sustainability with textile artistry through botanical printing and eco-conscious design. With a deep connection to the natural world, she transforms plant pigments into vibrant, one-of-a-kind textiles, capturing the essence of nature in every fiber. With a focus on slow fashion and the beauty of imperfection, Alison’s practice celebrates the intricate patterns and colors that emerge when plants leave their mark on fabric. Through Flora Obscura, she invites others to experience the transformative process of creating with the earth's own pigments and textures.
