Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill Ceramics Program
The ceramics program at Castle Hill operates year-round to provide cultural, social and educational enrichment to our community. Throughout the year we offer a collection of opportunities that include: a 16-week series of summer visiting artist workshops, fall/winter community classes, open studio sessions, atmospheric-firings and winter artist-in-residencies. The program is structured under two separate schedules – the summer program and winter program.
Clay prices and polices are the same for the Summer program and Winter program.
Summer Program
May – September
During the summer program the ceramic studio operates around weekly visiting artist workshops. For each workshop clay is purchased onsite for $30-$35 per 25lb bag. Clay purchase includes the bisque firing while glaze firings are a separate fee of $25-30 per cubic ft. For technical considerations we require that all clay in the ceramics studio and kilns be bought through Castle Hill. Clay that was purchased outside of the studio cannot be used or fired at Castle Hill. Kiln firing schedules vary amongst each workshop; for most workshops bisque fired work is available on the Friday of that workshop and/or ready the following week. For summer glazing opportunities please review our glazing open studio times and glazing workshops. Throughout the summer program the scheduled visiting artist workshops require the ceramics studio. Therefore, private studio space, independent kiln fires, and open studio sessions are not available during the summer program, except for limited glazing open studio sessions. Several of these opportunities are offered during our winter program.
Winter Program
October - April
During the winter program the ceramic studio schedules fall/winter community-based classes, open studio sessions, regular firing services and 3-month winter artist-in-residencies. Please click on the links below for information on each of the offerings:
If you are registered for the current clay classes, or if you have work to be glazed from a previous session, book your open studio time below.
Open Studio Times are available for currently enrolled students.
Please, do not enter the studio early and be cleaned up and ready to leave at the end of your session.
