Dear Castle Hill Family,
It has been a very eventful summer at Castle Hill, highlighted by our purchase of the property that has long been missing from our Meetinghouse Road Campus, 8 Meeting House Road. We were able to jump at the unexpected chance to buy this house because of your generosity. But as anyone who has bought a house knows, the closing is just the beginning.
Afterwards comes the real work of turning a house into a home – and in this case, transforming this main building and two outbuildings into much-needed housing for teachers, students and staff; a brand-new gallery to display the magnificent works made at Castle Hill; and new studio space for artists to learn and create.
That’s where you all come in. You can help transform this new property into places for learning about art, and for creating it and sharing it with the Truro community and beyond. Isn’t that why we’re all here? Because we believe that the making of art is not only a worthy endeavor for an individual, but because it betters our world?

A Historic Opportunity Right in Our Front Yard
Dear Friends,
Fifty-three years ago, a handful of Cape Cod artists with big dreams and a small budget came together to purchase a 100-year-old horse barn in the heart of Truro to create the art school that would grow to become the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill that we know and love today.
Now, we have met an equally momentous opportunity. For the first time in 150 years, the property at 8 Meetinghouse Road, which stands front and center on our original campus, was on the market. The roughly half acre property is in excellent condition. It consists of a five-bedroom house and two out-buildings – a two-car garage with a 2nd floor studio and a long structure that once housed the Truro school bus.
Together, the three structures will now give Castle Hill much-needed housing space for workshop students and staff, several more studios for classes of all kinds, dry storage space, additional parking, and new opportunities for outdoor events. Owning 8 Meetinghouse Road not only makes our campus whole, but brings under one stewardship one of Truro’s most unique and historic properties, the Snow Family Farms.
After a careful evaluation of our financial health, the Castle Hill Board of Directors voted unanimously to make an offer on 8 Meetinghouse Road, which to our delight was accepted. We put the word out and you responded! We received enough support to be able to meet the current owners’ required closing date.
We are confident that this purchase will be as instrumental to Castle Hill’s continuing evolution as our purchase eight years ago of Edgewood Farm. Acquiring that beautiful property allowed us to offer more workshops, establish an artist residency program, and construct a new wood kiln, a sculpture studio and an outdoor stage suitable for major dance and musical performances.
Of course, it owning the house will include on-going costs and we look to you for help in meeting those costs. With your help, Castle Hill can move confidently into our second half-century with two thriving campuses that together can meet the practical and creative needs of our staff and students and all who engage in and benefit from a thriving arts center in Truro.
