Shake & Quake: It's a Good Thing!
$100.00

Instructors: Rachael Sokolowski & Suz Karchmer
Tuesday, August 5
9am - 12pm
1 session

In this workshop, we will explore how to produce different effects by playing with motion in non-traditional ways, both by moving the camera itself and by photographing subjects that move.

We will be using four apps. You will need to purchase Slow Shutter Cam by Cognitap from the App Store. It is a $3.99 one-time purchase.

Also, you will want to buy Average Camera Pro/AvgCamPro by Dominik Seibold. It costs $1.99.

And lastly, ProCamera by Moment for $7.99, plus their PRO bundle (in-app purchase of the slow shutter and time lapse) for $4.99.

After a short introductory session about these apps, with our suggested settings for each, we will have a hands-on, hopefully outdoors session using the apps. We will end up back in the classroom to demonstrate how simple editing techniques in the native iOS editor (that’s the one that comes with the camera your iPhone) or Snapseed, (being taught as the first session the day before this presentation, and free in the App Store) can make these motions enhanced images really sing.

Suz Karchmer lives a dual life as a photographer. Partnering with her husband, Michael Karchmer, they specialize in photographing theater performances and special events. They are the company photographer for Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater. Their images regularly appear in local newspapers and magazines. They were both early adopters of the iPhone for their other photographic pursuits and have taught workshops and written magazine articles advocating the art and joy of iPhone photography.

In her personal photography, her iPhone rules! She swears she sees better and more with her iPhone. She is motivated to always see something new to photograph or to photograph something known in a new way. Suz uses a variety of different camera apps. Her continuing series, Unfurling, which was photographed with her iPhone, was exhibited for two years at Acadia in Provincetown’s West End. One of those images was used as the cover of Cape Cod Magazine’s annual garden issue. Another of her iPhone images was made into a banner and flew over Commercial Street for the summer season. Suz is a member of the National Association of Digital Artists, the Cape Cod Digital Art Group, and Cape Cod Viewfinders Camera Club.

Rachael Sokolowski was an early adopter of the iPhone as her camera of choice. She works visually in photography, video and mixed media, often adding text and different filters from various iPhone apps. She prints to a variety of different media, often adding to the images with ink, pastel and water-based oils.  For the past two years, Rachael has co-led Cape Cod Magic’ workshops with fellow photographer Rad Drew. Her images have been shown at juried and group shows at different locations on the Cape Cod and awards include honorable mentions in non-professional section of the 13th and 16th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards and the Creative Arts Center in Chatham and first place in the 2020 National Association of Digital Artists Resilience Competition. Her film Snowmageddon won best in show at the 2015 Provincetown Film Festival and was shown in New York City at the 2016 Dog Film Festival. She is a member of the National Association of Digital Artists, The Truro Group, and the Cape Cod Digital Arts Group. Rachael lives year-round with her wife, Amanda Reed, border collie, Meadow, and two cats Matilda and Morrison, in North Truro, Massachusetts.
