Instructor: Dan Welden
Monday - Friday
August 18 - 22
9am - 12pm
5 sessions
Open Studio: Mon - Thurs, 1pm - 4pm

This 5-day work session will revolve around printmaking. Each participant will have the opportunity to draw, paint, collage or include photography with the light- sensitized Solarplate. The excitement of creating “Hybrid’ works on paper is unparalleled and can yield many unique interpretations from a singular matrix (4X5 up to 16X20 inches). The Solarplate can be combined with monotypes and participants will be encouraged to rework their images with gesso, Caran d’Ache crayons, matt medium, and a host of other materials they may bring. Although printmaking forms the basis for the work, drawing, painting and mark making will be emphasized. Self-directed and motivated artists will be encouraged to develop a body of work and are invited to bring previous or incomplete works to modify and enhance.

Dan Welden is the original pioneer of alternative and safer printmaking and co-author of Printmaking in
the Sun. He has worked professionally in 54 countries on all 7 continents receiving a ‘lifetime achievement’ award from A/E Foundation, NY. He has had 103 solo exhibitions including paintings and works on paper and has been awarded a Pollock-Krasner Grant and the honor of "Professor Emeritus" at the Escuela de Beas Artes in Cusco, Peru.
