Opening Reception
Thursday, September 14
4pm - 6pm
Barringer has been a studio artist since 1973, making both sculpture and functional pottery. Her work has been exhibited internationally, and she has taught at numerous art centers and Universities including Ohio University, The Museum School, and Penland School of Crafts. In addition to her studio work she has written and lectured on ceramic history, and was editor of The Studio Potter Journal from 2004-2014.
Barringer states “Pots enmesh me in time. Clay’s nature and transformation cannot be sidestepped, compressed or digitized and so I must give my work the time that it requires. This in turn impasses upon me a sense of time that I require-one that I hope is held in the pots as they make their way out into the world, and into others hands.”
Dukess has been exhibiting in museums, academic venues and galleries for over 30 years. She studied with Budd Hopkins, the late New York Abstract Expressionist painter and works in collaboration with Paul Wong, master paper artist and Artistic Director of Dieu Donne Paper Mill, NYC.
Dukess will be displaying her newest work, which is polacolor image transfer. In this process Dukess transfers Polaroid’s and photographs while enlarging them. Currently she is represented by Miranda Fine Arts, Portchester, NY.
