This work is the culmination of a 2  year study of Professional Development. My theme was the power of women.  This work , being created in plaster, wire, foam, plastic, aluminum foil and Pal Tiya. Plaster is a very intriguing medium because it has the ability to feel mundane and yet can be formed to create works of art, similar to the work of Mindy Alper and Will Kurtz, who both use newspaper to make Figurative work come to life.
"Power Thru Pain" was the first of these sculptures to be realized. It depicts Frida Kahlo as she saw herself, in the body of a suffering deer, riddled with arrows. After a debilitating accident, Frida used paint to talk about her pain.
"Our Wonder Woman" was the next in this series. She is Ruth Bader Ginsberg in the body of Wonder Woman, breaking through the wall of resistance , toppling the pillar of masculine society, working tirelessly for the rights of women.
"Give us a Hand" has gone through many iterations a to finally arrive at a more forceful representation of current national dis-ease. This piece depicts Nancy Pelosi and her clap of shame.
" Warriors, Boudica to Hillary" is a tribute to The Power of the feminine.
"Getting to the Core of Yayoi" Yayoi Kusama is a renowned Japanese artist who has battled with mental illness all her life. The Russian Doll analogy shows the many layers of  her angst, and arrives to ally, at the core of a more simple and peaceful Yayoi. This angst propelled her incredible production of sculpture, painting and fabric design.
"Mother and Child" A tribute to Louise Bourgeoise, who used the spider as her representation of Mother. Her title for these sometimes 2 story sculptures is Maman. Her early life was so difficult that it pushed her to this monumental expression of her pain. The spider legs here from a date for that aging child.
