Studio Manager with a focus on the Sculpture Program
The Studio Manager for sculpture is responsible for the smooth, safe and efficient running of workshops and for daily maintenance of the Sculpture studio, welding pad, and grounds. Studios require quick breakdowns and set ups between classes with attention to the detailed requirements of each class including the number of students and materials and equipment required. The Sculpture Studio Manager needs to have experience with power tools and promote safety protocols. Welding experience and knowledge of running a CNC Router are a plus!
Studios open at 8:45 a.m. and close at 5:00, staff ideally work on staggering 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (times will vary depending on workshops and events). Castle Hill has multiple locations, 10 Meetinghouse Road & Edgewood Farm, this position will be located at Edgewood Farm.
Duties Include:
Responsible for preparing the studios and grounds in anticipation of the summer season & making necessary repairs
Communicating with visiting faculty and ordering materials as needed
Preparing studios for each workshop, including tool maintenance, painting, cleaning up after use, closing down at the end of the day
Assisting the faculty, checking attendance, and generally monitoring each class
Maintaining equipment and supervising its use: this includes wood shop and welding tools and equipment
Experience with a CNC Router is a plus
Enforcing universal and safety precautions as described by director, this may include training others
Keeping grounds in order and all public spaces, i.e. bathrooms, gallery, landscaping, parking
Assisting with Auction, gallery openings, and other events as planned
Cleaning, inventory and closing the studios at the end of the season
Assisting the Executive Director as needed
Assisting in all aspects of the Encaustic Conference
Sculpture Studio Woodshop Equipment Includes: belt/disc sanders, orbital sander band saw, miter saw, drill press, table saw, jig saw, CNC router, drills, brad gun, grinders, planer
Welding Pad Equipment: MIG welders, grinders, torches, plasma cutter
Salary range:
$18 - $22.00 dollars per hour (May, June, July & August) Monday – Friday, (some weekends) 40 hours per week.
Shoulder seasons: May & September – 30 hours, October 15 - 20 hours – (TBD)
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in arts or related field, strong people skills, organized and a team player
Experience with woodworking, and/or using power tools & welding
Must have an interest in the arts and a strong background in at least one of the following areas: painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, working with children, handyman / light carpentry / maintenance / some landscaping & gardening.
