We live in a material world filled with the objects and detritus of our lives. In this class we will source the abundance of material that surrounds us. Students will explore the social, cultural and personal implications of using found and domestic objects in our work. We will learn how to manipulate found objects using tools and techniques including applied heat, cutting, grinding, bending and crushing. Subsequently, we will integrate these altered elements with a conventional subtractive, crafted through the carving of rigid insulation and Hydrocal Plaster. The multidimensional relationship between form and meaning will be discussed as it takes shape in the pieces we craft.
