Discover the versatility of Akua Liquid Pigments in this immersive workshop. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, you'll explore the endless possibilities of color and pattern with these soy-based, water-washable inks, creating multilayered designs on kozo (mulberry) paper. From delicate washes to bold, vibrant hues, you’ll learn techniques that push the boundaries of printmaking, painting, and dyeing. Experiment with layering, blending, and exploring new color combinations, unlocking a fresh approach to working with Akua Liquid Pigments.
In the second half of the workshop, you’ll transform your beautifully patterned papers into a handmade square box structure using bookbinding board. This will serve as the foundation for your own unique three-dimensional creations. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bookbinding tools, though all essential materials will be provided.

Awarded a full scholarship to Central St Martins in London, England, PD Packard earned a BFA degree in Textile Design and Fashion. Upon returning to the United States, she designed products and graphic design for packaging, displays, original textiles, and surface designs primarily catering to department stores like Barneys New York and Japan, Neiman Marcus, Henri Bendels, and Bergdorf Goodman under the Packard label. Drawing parallels between printmaking and fabric/surface design facilitated her smooth transition into fine art printmaking in 2009. Packard's artistic endeavors have been exhibited widely, both in the United States and internationally, including at the Tate Britain Museum in London, the Guanlan International Print Biennial in Shenzhen, China, the Amsterdams Grafisch Atelier in the Netherlands, and the Minnesota Center for the Book Arts in Minneapolis, MN. Her pieces are held in prominent collections such as the Museum of Modern Art's Franklin Furnace Art Book Collection in New York City, the Boston Public Library Print Collection, the National Taiwan
Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung City, the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venezia in Italy, the Southern Graphics Council International collection in Kennesaw, GA, as well as numerous private collections worldwide.
In March 2019, she concluded a Fellowship Residency at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venezia, Italy, sponsored in part by The Boston Printmakers and Speedball Art Products. Additionally, in August 2016, Speedball Art Products commissioned her to create an educational video showcasing her specialized technique for Printing Decorative Papers with Akua Liquid Pigments featured in this workshop. The video was co-directed by the artist and the inventor of Akua Inks, Susan Rostow, and Christina Pumo and can be viewed on the Akua Printshop channel on YouTube.
